Mark A. Tessereau - Director of Bands

Mark A. Tessereau has been director of bands at Belleville East High School since 1995 where he conducts Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble Too, Jazz Band, and the Marching Lancers. Under his direction, the Marching Lancers have traveled to the Indy 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis, IN and received grand champion honors at the Peach Bowl Festival in Atlanta, GA, the Liberty Bowl Festival in Memphis, TN and the Outback Bowl in Tampa, FL.  The Wind Ensemble was honored to perform at the Illinois Music Educators Association All State Conference in 2000 and the Concert Jazz Orchestra performed at the 2008 All State Conference. Also under his direction, the Concert Jazz Orchestra has performed with jazz artists such as Pat Harbison, Reggie Thomas, Brett Stamps, Bill Watrous and has opened for the late great Maynard Ferguson twice. Mark is an active member of the Illinois Music Educators Association, MENC and the Jazz Educators Network.

Mark Tessereau holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He lives in Shiloh, IL with his wife Linda and three daughters Carleigh (9), Vanessa (7) and Ashlyn (3).

Lacy Wray - Associate Director of Bands

Lacy Wray is new to Belleville East this year. She is a 2007 graduate of Western Illinois University with an emphasis in piano, saxophone and steel drums. At Belleville East High School, Ms. Wray assists with the Wind Ensemble, team teaches the Wind Symphony and conducts the Symphonic Band. She also conducts the Jazz Band as well as teaches mixed choir and advance mixed choir. Another responsibility is associate director of the Marching Lancers. Bill Castillo - Percussion Director

Bill Castillo is currently the Percussion Director for Belleville East High School in Belleville, IL. He has held that position since 2003. He oversees all aspects of the percussion program. In addition, he also arranges the drumline and front ensemble books for the Marching Lancers as well as arranges music for the percussion ensemble concert. During his time at Belleville East, the drumline has been awarded the "Best Bassline" trophy at the Mozingo Drumline Competition. He also works with the middle schools that feed into the high school program. He has held similar positions at Wentzville High School, Belleville West High School, Lindbergh High School and Mehlville High School.

Bill has taught camps at Truman State University. He has performed with various ensembles in the St. Louis area and given percussion clinics across the state. He also does recording work for Key Poulan Music, JKS Music as well as engraving, recording work and testing software for Tapspace Publications.  Bill is also available as a freelance engraver and recording specialist.

Bill is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a professional music fraternity for men. He is also a proud endorser of Innovative Percussion Sticks and Mallets, Pearl Drums and Adams Keyboards, and Remo Drumheads.

Sharon Schafale - Color Guard Instructor/Caption Head

Sharon is starting her 9th season with the Belleville East Marching Lancers.  She has helped with the winter color guard line for the last two years at Wolf Branch Middle School.  Prior to coming to Belleville East, Sharon taught two years at Mt. Vernon High School and one year at Mater Dei High School.  She marched for three years in the rifle line at Belleville West High School and marched 6 years with the Bellettes Drum Corps.  Sharon started out in the flag line, then moved up to the rifle line and eventually became the color guard captain.  She went on to choreograph their show the last season she marched.  Sharon presently works at Belleville Area Special Services Cooperative, which is the Special Education Cooperative for 23 school districts in the Belleville area and has worked there for 16 years.   

The Belleville East Color Guard has placed first the last two years at the Mid-America Holiday Parade in St. Louis on Thanksgiving day. 

Sharon resides in Fairview Heights, IL with her daughter Lauren (17) and has an older daughter Julie, who is currently teaching at Waterloo High School.
